My occasional interest in photography took a major turn after visiting New Mexico for the first time in 2023.
I visited the Albuquerque Photographer's Gallery in Old Town Albuquerque, and was introduced to gumoil printing, a photo processing technique I'd never seen or heard of before. The owner of the gallery showed me a gumoil print made by Karl Koenig -the person who invented gumoil printing- and my appreciation of photography and art changed from that moment on. I was immediately inspired. It was a print of San Francisco de Asis church in Taos, made from a photo transposed to paper then brought to life with oil paint. It was raw, textured, and moody. I wanted that print, but I couldn't afford it, so I thought, I have to learn how to do this. And for the first time ever, I found a passion for something that might actually stick.
I've been learning, practicing, and experimenting with the gumoil process since. It has sparked my interest and curiosity in art, photography, other printing processes, and other alternative photo processes. If you want to reach out to talk shop, to collaborate, to inquire about buying a print, or a commission piece, please send me an email.
Thanks so much for visiting my site.
